Description:

Wayne Salge (CO, 20th C), 'Tokay, Open', Bronze, signed on edge near back hoofs, the standing horse on a rectangular white stone base, with label on underside 'WSALG-000027, Tokay, Open, Bronze, 6'. Provenance: purchased from Maclaren Markowitz Gallery, Boulder, CO, 12/9/03, for $500.

Born and raised in San Antonio, Texas. Wayne trained formally at San Antonio College and La Villita School of Art in his hometown. His career has ranged from a television art director to an Army illustrator to an advertising agency art director and to a free-lance graphic designer and illustrator. Wayne has been sculpting and casting his stylized works in bronze for the last ten years. His body of work numbers over eighty pieces primarily in small limited editions that range in size from five inched to twelve feet in height. Salge now resides in Northern Colorado. In his bronze sculpture, Salge moves beyond anatomically accurate rendering to capture the essence of the personality of his subject. He enjoys finding the balance between the literal and the figurative. (National Sculptors Guild)
