Miguel Martinez was born and has lived in Taos, New Mexico, since 1951. Martinez has worked with a number of prominent New Mexico artists, including R.C. Gorman, Ray Vinella and Frank Howell, and has been inspired by the art of Mexican artists, Diego Rivera and Francisco Zuniga, as well as the poignant emotional images of Amedeo Modigliani. Martinez’s is know for modernist paintings of the faces of women, whose mysterious, illusive and provocative expressions fill almost the entire canvas. (Winsorbetts.com)
