Description:

Todd Stoddard McKie (American, b. 1944), No Rest for the Weary, Watercolor on Paper, 1981, pencil signed and dated lower right, with Acquavella Galleries, Inc., 18 East 79th St., New York, NY 10021 label verso, also with stapled label Todd McKie C282/097, depicting a snake and two figures, one holding an olive, floating in a frame. Frame size: 46 3/4 in. x 55 in. Provenance: according to the consignor, he purchased this work directly from the artist in the mid 1990's ($7500).

Todd McKie is a painter, sculptor, and printmaker. Witty and playful, his work depicts images of heads, vessels, animals, and pictographs. He is married to Judy Mckie, one of the premier figures in the American Studio Funiture movement. Todd McKie has exhibited at the Rose Art Museum at Brandeis University; the McMullen Museum at Boston College; the Institute of Contemporary Art, Boston; the DeCordova Museum in Lincoln, Massachusetts; as well as the National Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C. He is the recipient of two Massachusetts Artists Fellowships (1975 and 1989) and residencies at Centre d’Arte in Marnay-sur-Seine, France; the McColl Center in Charlotte, North Carolina; and the Villa Montalvo (now the Montalvo Arts Center), in Saratoga, California. McKie is held in the following collections: DeCordova Museum, Lincoln, MA, Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, MA, Microsoft Corporation, Seattle, WA.

Measurements: Height: 44 1/2 in. x Width: 52 1/2 in.

Condition:

Good condition, not viewed out of frame, slight waviness to paper, some surface dirt along lower edge, scuffs to plexiglass.
