Description:

Pyotr Kuzmich Stolyarenko (Ukrainian, b. 1925), The Soldiers Were Walking, Oil on Canvas on Board, 1980, signed lower left, depicting a battlefield with tanks and soldiers, in a painted wood frame. Frame size: 69 3/4 in. x 111 in.

Provenance: Included in the Catalog of Exhibiton of Works by the Crimea Organization of The Union of Artists of Ukraine, Kyiv, 1990.

Pyotr Kuzmich Stolyarenko is the People's Artist of Ukraine and a Soviet post-impressionist painter. Kuzmich studied under NS Barsamov in Feodosia before a brief stint at Simferopol College. Around 1950 he was accepted as a member of the Union of Artists of the USSR and has remained active in the Ukranian Union throughout his career. His work was inspired by his time living and working in both Kerch and Yalta, as well as five years spent in Paris. Stolyarenko's work can be found in major collections in Ukraine as well as in private collections. (Oknasocrealisma.com)

Measurements: Height: by sight 68 in. x Width: 109 1/4 in.

Condition:

Overall good condition, craquelure, some minor lifting to paint, restretched on board, wear to edges of frame.
