Description:

Large Italian Renaissance Walnut Bookcase Cupboard, 17th C and Later, in three parts, the reverse breakfronted molded top with egg and dart and dentil molding above a conforming case fitted with a shelved center section flanked by twin fluted pilasters headed by Corinthian capitals, with similar sides, each with covered door, the projecting lower section fitted with a molded drawer flanked by acanthus carved pilasters, the sides fitted with covered doors on a molded plinth; right plinth with brass plaque 'Ex Coll. Elton M. Hyder, Jr.'

Provenance: Elton Hyder III Collection, formerly at the University of Texas School of Law. Purchased from Heritage Auctions, September 12, 2012, Sale 5101, lot 87139, $16,250.

Measurements: Height: 101 1/2 in. x Width: 111 in. x Depth: 32 in.

Condition:

Restorations throughout, sections rebuilt, old marks and scratches, old worm damage, cushion molding to frieze possibly later, center formerly fitted with wrought iron doors, shelves later, drawer later, age cracks to panels, left side frieze and upper cupboard door with extensive worm damage, repairs and losses, lower cupboard doors to both sides later; dings and dents throughout, scuffs to plinth.
