Description:

Phillip Jewel Hampton was an artist and educator from Missouri. Hampton studied at Citrus Junior College, Kansas State University and Drake University before completing his BA at the Kansas City Art Institute. The WWII veteran then completed his master's degree in 1952, making him the first African American person to receive a master's in art in the state of Missouri. He worked as an artist for a Kansas City newspaper before moving to Savannah, Georgia, where he taught at Savannah State College. He later taught at Southern Illinois University.

Measurements: Height: by sight, 22 3/8 in. x Width: 27 5/8 in.

Condition:

Overall good condition, toning, particularly at top edge likely from mounting tape, some areas of surface staining, not viewed out of frame, light wear to frame.
