Paul Cezanne was a French Post-Impressionist artist whose work influenced art of the cubist, fauvest, and avant-garde art movements. Born in 1839 in Aix-en-Provence, Cezanne began painting in 1860 and whet on to study in Paris, before returning to Province. He had his first exhibition in Paris in 1895 where he gained the recognition of notable artist and collectors such as Bernard Berenson, Mary Cassatt, Henry Osborne Havemeyer, and Louisine Havemeyer.
