Description:

Pair of American School Portraits, 19th Century, both unsigned, possibly James L. Wattles (American, 19th Century) one depicting a seated woman in black dress with lace collar, the other depicting a seated gentleman in a black coat with gold button and chain, both in giltwood frames. Together with old inscription mounted to board 'Painted April 11th 1851, Michael Warner, by J. L. Wattles'. Frame size: 39 1/2 in. x 32 1/4 in.

Measurements: Height: by sight of both 35 1/2 in. x Width: 28 1/4 in.

Condition:

Overall fair condition, both relined, in need of cleaning, craquelure, the portrait of a gentleman with extreme craquelure and areas of inpainting throughout, the portrait of the woman with some small areas on inpainting in hair and along left and bottom edge.
