Description:

Nepalese Terracotta Head Vessel, c. 17th Century or Earlier, the vessel depicting Bhairava, the angry manifestation of Shiva, was used in an annual festival of Indra (Indrayatra). The pot would have held a home brewed beer which would be funneled through a pipe spigot from the hole in the mouth and consumed by devotees.

Provenance: Carlos Museum, Atlanta, Georgia.

Measurements: Height: 26 1/2 in. x Width: 27 in. x Depth: 22 in.

Condition:

Wear and scratches to surface, small repair to one animal on headdress, small losses to back of vessel, some minor cracks to surface, repaired crack across back of vessel, bottom repaired.
