Description:
Manly MacDonald (Ontario/MA, 1889 - 1971), River Scene in Snow, Oil on Canvas, signed lower left, depicting a snowy landscape with river and trees, in a giltwood frame. Frame size:29 1/2 in. x 35 1/2 in.A well-known Canadian painter, MacDonald primarily used oil paint, but also worked in pastel, watercolor, etching and mixed media. MacDonald studied at the Albright Art School in Buffalo, New York, as well as at the Boston Museum of Fine Arts. Working in impressionistic, realism and plein air styles and methods, MacDonald often painted near Lake Ontario.
Measurements: Height: by sight 23 1/2 in. x Width: 29 1/2 in.
Condition:
Good condition, craquelure, paint starting to lift in mid left quadrant, with some small losses to paint.
