Description:

Juli Yulevich Klever, Jr (Russian Federation, 1882-1942), Sunset in the Woods, Oil on Canvas, signed lower right, depicting a winter snowy river landscape with boat in the foreground and trees and houses in the background at sunset, with Sotheby's Auction inventory lables on verso, in a giltwood frame. Frame size: 25 1/2 in. x 32 in.

Juli Yulevich Klever, Jr was a Russian landscape and still life painter, son of the famous painter, Professor J. Klever (Sen.). He first studied with his father and later at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich (1906-1908). Since 1898, he participated in various exhibitions in St. Petersburg. A solo exhibition of his work was held in Moscow in 1910. From 1902-1906 and 1909-1917 he taught at an art school in St. Petersburg. In 1942 the artist died tragically during the Siege of Leningrad during WW2. His works are in many museums and private collections.

Measurements: Height: by sight 18 in. x Width: 24 1/2 in.

Condition:

Good restored condition, re-lined, some craquelure, inpainting mainly in upper left quadrant in sky, also in two large trees and branch by boat, other scattered areas.
