Description:

Johann Berthelsen (NY/CT/Denmark, 1883-1972), Central Park Snow Scene, Oil on Canvas, signed lower right, depicting a Central Park snow scene with bridge and stream, in a wood frame. Frame size: 29 3/8 in. x 25 3/8 in.

Johann Henrik Carl Berthelsen was an American Impressionist painter. Born in Denmark, Berthelsen's family moved to the United States when he was very young, His early artistic ambitions were not as a painter but as a singer. He studied music and had a successful career as a baritone before turning to painting. He was self-taught and took up painting as a hobby before being admitted to the American Watercolor Society. He took up oil painting and found success with his popular New York City street scenes. His work can be found in the collections of the Richmond Art Museum, Indiana State Museum, the Sembrich Museum, the Swope Art Museum and the Hickory Museum, as well as in many private collections and galleries.

Measurements: Height: by sight 23 1/2 in. x Width: 19 1/2 in.

Condition:

Overall good condition, craquelure, some surface dirt, not viewed out of frame.
