Description:

Helen Kendall (1892-1970), Yellow Square, Gouache, unsigned study, depicting abstract linear and geometric designs in tones of orange, yellow, white, and black on a pale gray-green ground, matted and framed. Frame size: 21 1/8 in. x 17 1/8 in.

Helen Lowe Kendall was an active member of the Non-Objective abstractionists organization in New York City, whose artists and collection led to the establishment of the Guggenheim Museum. She exhibited with notable artists such as Wassily Kandinsky, Rudolf Bauer, Rolf Scarlett, Irene Rice Periera, and Hila Rebay in New York as well as in Paris at the Palais des Beaux-Arts and the Galerie Carpentier.
