Born Anna Mary Robertson in 1860, Grandma Moses is known for her naive landscape and genre paintings. Moses didn't begin painting until she was 78 when arthritis rendered her unable to continue her hobby of embroidery. She depicted happy scenes of farm life and holidays in rural New York and Virginia. Moses exhibited her work internationally into her 90s and didn't stop painting until a few months before her death at the age of 101 in 1961.
