Description:

Attributed to Willard Hirsch (SC, 1905-1982), Cassique of the Kiawah 1670, Plaster Sculpture, c. 1971, probably a study for the bronze sculpture in Charleston, the standing figure holding a staff and deerskin, on a Doric plinth (8 1/2 in. x 19 in. x 14 in.)

Willard Newman Hirsch was an American sculptor. Hirsch studied at the College of Charleston, where he later taught, and the Beaux-Arts Institute of Design. He also taught at the Gibbes Museum and the Charleston Art School. His work is in the collections of Brookgreen Gardens, Newberry College, Charleston County Library, and the Clemson House.

Measurements: Height: 54 in. x Width: 20 in. x Depth: 14 in.

Condition:

Good overall condition, crack near neck.
