Description:

8 Russian Lacquer Boxes, including 3 Palekh, 3 Mstiora, and 1 possibly Mstiora box. The largest Palekh box illegibly signed and titled "Ship" depicts a scene of a large masted ship with various figures seated in the foreground of the composition playing instruments, eating, and resting. The Palekh box signed Kotava on lower right and titled "Dance" depicts a gathering in the forest of dancing figures. The Palekh box signed C.A. on lower right and titled "Morozko" depicts the Russian spirit of winter holding a large staff in his left hand while his other extends to the shoulder of a figure sitting in the snow. The circular Palekh box signed B.N. on lower right and titled "Spring" depicts a human personification of the season of spring greeting another woman with a flower crown along a river. The Mstiora box signed P.V. on lower right and titled "Hunchback Horse" depicts a popular scene of a young man playing an instrument for two large and one small dancing horses. The circular Mstiora box illegibly signed and titled "Frost" depicts the Russian spirit of winter wrapping a coat around the shoulders of a figure sitting on the ground. The circular Mstiora box signed Isp. M. Bot. on lower right and titled "Mostovoa Street" depicts a scene of a man and woman carrying water pails walking along a trail to town. The last illegibly signed and titled box depicts a castle marriage scene.

Measurements: Height: of largest: 2 in. x Width: 4 3/4 in. x Depth: 7 1/8 in.

Condition:

Good condition, minor rubbing to some paint and minor scuffs or marks from general use, the Palekh box titled "Dance" has minor cracking on lacquered surface.
