Description:

Viktor IV (NY/Netherlands, 1929-1986), Woof, Oil on Board, 1965, signed on front 'V4 24011 1965' and marked on back V4 , 259, 26 XII 1965' and also with Lefebre Gallery label, 47 East 77th Street, New York 21 New York, Rhinelander 4-3384, depicting dogs and a landscape scene, painted on found wood.

Born in New York in 1929 as Walter Karl Gluck, he spent the first half of his life travelng the world before settling in Amsterdam in 1961. The murder of President Kennedy was the inspiration for the first painting in his career, when he realized that there were other options to express thoughts or events. He purchased and renovated a ship into his home and studio and moored it in the Amstel River. Viktor lived, works and created on the ship up until his tragic death in 1986 when he got entangled in the ropes doing some renovations below the ship and drowned. Many of his works can be found at the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam, Van Abbemuseum in Eindhoven, NY Carlsberg Glyptotek and the Louisiana Museum in Denmark, but also in many galleries around the world, including his birthplace in New York.
