Description:

Ted Jeremenko (NY/Yugoslavia, b. 1938), Safe Return, Acrylic on Canvas, signed lower right, depicting a masted ship with lighthouse and moon in the background, signed, dated and titled verso, in a wood frame. Frame size: 26 1/4 in. x 31 1/4 in. Together with McBride Gallery Provenance documents.

Provenance: The painting was first shown at the Art Expo, International in New York, NY, in 1999, purchased by current consignor at McBride Gallery Annapolis,1999, for $9,600.

Ted Jeremenko was born in Yogoslavia in 1938, and he and his family moved to Philadelphia in 1950. A thwarted architect who was following a successful career in business, he began pursuing his life-long interests in both art and architecture in 1971, after a trip to East Hampton, New York. The architecture of eastern Long Island gave Jeremenko the inspiration to paint imaginary villagescapes that exist out of time and are removed from specific place. His style is influenced by the tradition of American folk art yet is transformed into contemporary motifs. His goal is to create images that have a dreamlike quality that celebrates the idealization of simple values yet has a haunting, lingering presence. (Askart.com)
