Property of a Private Collection, Savannah, GA(FL/SC/Bahamas, b. 1957) signed, inscribed 'First Study Shelley's Brother' and dated '99 lower right with embossed stamp, depicting a boy with straw hat in front of a white picket fence, matted and framed. Together with a letter from the artist on his letterhead "I was thrilled to hear of your purchase of Tenth Son. You chose a piece that is close to my heart. The young boy is the youngest son in a family of 11 children of which Shelley is the only girl. I have been painting Shelley now for 11 years, she is in such pieces as Eleuthera Girl, Bright Baby Blues and Sunday Shoes. To me, painting her youngest brother is a continuation of the close involvement of my work and her family. All the best, Scott". Frame size: 34 1/2 in. x 42 1/2 in. By sight: H. 21 1/4 in. x W. 29 1/4 in. "Stephen Scott Young was raised in St. Augustine, Florida, where he attended Flagler College, studying printmaking and watercolor, and earning a prize in American Artist's national competition in 1985. His mature style, which focuses on the realistic depiction of people in his area of Florida and the Bahamas, particularly black children, has been compared to many American masters from Winslow Homer to Andrew Wyeth."
