Rufino Tamayo was a 20th century Mexican painter and printmaker. He is known for his large-scale murals and vivid colors. A primarily self taught artist, Tamayo worked among artists such as Diego Rivera, David Alfaro Siqueiros, and Jose Clemente Orozco. After working in both Mexico and New York Tamayo settled in his home town of Oaxaca, Mexico in 1959 where he founded the Museo Rufino Tamayo in the 1980s. In 1991 he founded the Museo Tamayo Arte Contemporaneous Mexico City. Tamayo's work can be found in the collections of The Museum of Modern Art in New York, the Walker Art Center in Minneapolis, and the Art Institute of Chicago, among others.MEASURMENTS: Height: of plate 27 in. x Width: 20 1/2 in.
