Description:

Rembrandt Van Rijn (Dutch 1606-1669), St. Jerome in Prayer, Etching, unsigned, on laid paper, depicting St. Jerome kneeling in prayer with lion, floating in a mat and giltwood frame. Frame size: 11 3/4 in. x 9 7/8 in.

Rembrandt van Rijn was a Dutch artist widely regarded as one of the greatest painters in history. He is best known for golden-hued depictions of biblical, mythological, and vernacular scenes. Born Rembrandt Harmenszoonon van Rijn on July 15, 1606 in Leiden, Netherlands, Rembrandt apprenticed to a number of masters before opening his first studio sometime between 1624 and 1625. Today, his works can be seen at the Rembrandt House Museum in Amsterdam, the Hermitage Museum in St. Petersburg, the Art Institute of Chicago, the Mauritshuis Royal Picture Gallery in The Hague, the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, and the National Gallery in London, among others. Measurements: Height: of sheet 4 5/8 in. x Width: 3 1/4 in.

Condition:

Overall good condition, paper toned, wear to edges, restoration in corners, small tear bottom of left side, 2 spot stains in left side, 1 1/2 in. tears in mid left side.
