Description:

Ray Ellis (SC/MA, 1921-2013), Landscape Sketch, Pencil on Paper, signed lower right, likely in Maine, note affixed to frame reading 'Ray stayed at Harman's 'Cottage' on Island off Maine. That's where he heard he got the book (North by Northeast) with Walter Cronkite off and running.', with framer's label, matted and framed. Frame size: 15 in. x 19 1/2 in.

Ray Ellis was an American painter known primarily for his depictions of the American coast. He attended the Philadelphia Museum School of Art and had his first solo exhibition at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts. In the early 1980’s Ellis published a series of books in collaboration with Walter Cronkite celebrating North American coastlines. Ellis was commissioned to paint the image for the White House Christmas card for three consecutive years, beginning in 1998. The Telfair Museum in Savannah, Georgia curated a large, traveling retrospective of his work in 2004. Ellis’ work can be found in galleries, museums and private collections across the country, as well as in various US embassies and the White House. (rayellis.com)

Overall good condition, mat burn, faint crease to paper not viewed out of frame.
