Description:

Rashid Al Oraifi (Bahrain, 1942-2017), Dilmun, Mixed Media on Board, signed lower right, figural abstracts in tones of teal, red and gold, with various motifs including animals and buildings, in a wood frame. Frame size: 31 3/4 in. x 23 3/4 in. Provenance: Purchased in 1979 from the artist via Claus Buchi, together with artist's statement about the painting. The piece won first prize in the 'Exhibition of Plastic Art' in Bahrain January 1972.

Rashid Al Oraifi was a well-respected Bahraini visual artist. Al Oraifi began exhibiting his work in 1963 and went on to found the Bahrain Contemporary Art Association. In 1980, Al Oraifi won the Dilmun Award from the Ministry of Cabinet Affairs and Information. He held seminars on art, served as editor-in-chief of Tour Guide magazine and was a member of the International Union of Artists. In 1994, he founded the Rashid Al Oraifi Museum. Al Oraifi was heavily inspired by the stories and symbols of the ancient Dilmun civilization. He exhibited in Saudi Arabia, Egypt and United Arab Emirates, as well as in Japan, Singapore, Monaco and France.

Condition:

Overall good condition, small scrape to lower right corner, light wear to frame.
