Description:

Possibly Isaac Henry Caliga (IN/MA, 1857-1934) Portrait of a Woman, Oil on Canvas, unsigned, portrait of a dark haired young woman in a white dress, label on verso reading "Attr: Isaac Henry Caliga (1857-1934) Unsigned-attribution by Caliga family, Boston/Provincetown," in a giltwood frame. Frame size: 35 1/4 in. x 30 1/4 in.

Born in Indiana, Isaac Henry Caliga worked mostly in Boston. He studied art in Munich before returning to exhibit his work at the Boston Art Club. He went on to exhibit at the Corcoran Gallery and the Art Institute of Chicago. Caliga is best known for his portraits and interior compositions. His work can be found in the Smithsonian American Art Museum, as well as many other public and private collections.

Measurements: Height: by sight, 29 1/4 in. x Width: 24 1/4 in.

Condition:

Overall good condition, craquelure, small loss to paint lower center and in lace on blouse, small spots of inpainting in dress and in background along edges, light wear to frame.
