Nelson, Horatio (1758-1805) Signed Letter, autograph letter signed by Horatio Nelson, 1st Viscount Nelson, 1st Duke of Bronte, from aboard the H.M.S. Victory, March 3, 1805, to Capt. Bayntun, with portrait print of Nelson, matted and framed. Frame size: 15 1/2 in. x 22 1/2 in.
Horatio Nelson was a British flag officer in the Royal Navy. His leadership, strategy and unconventional tactics brought about a number of decisive British naval victories during the French Revolutionary and Napoleonic Wars. He is often regarded as the greatest officer in the history of the Royal Navy due to his decisive victories, culminating in the Battle of Trafalgar where he was shot and killed. Today there is a monument to Nelson in London’s Trafalgar square.
Measurements: Height: by sight of letter 9 in. x Width: 7 1/4 in.
Condition:
Good condition, letter with minor toning, minor foxing along left edge, faint creases from folding, not viewed out of frame.
