Herman Moll (Dutch/English, 1654-1732), Rare Hand Colored Map of North America, c. 1720, hand colored map of North America, also known as the "Cod Fish Map", c. 1720, with pictorial cartouche depicting Native Americans and the armorial shield of Lord Sommers, above an illustration of the Cod fish industry, and 10 inset charts of harbors, the map depicting western North America shown as 'Parts Unknown', and California shown as an island, with 'Antiquities Certificate of Authenticity' on verso, matted and framed. Frame size: 36 1/4 in. x 51 1/4 in.Measurements: Height: by sight 23 in. x Width: 38 in.
Condition:
Overall fair condition, toning and minor foxing, 4 vertical creases, central crease with staining and small tears and creasing, small tears along edges, paper slightly wavy, not viewed out of frame.Notice to bidders: The absence of a condition report does not imply that the lot is in perfect condition or completely free from wear and tear, imperfections, or the conditions of aging.
