Description:

Michael Lemmermeyer (NY, 1898-1978), Mountainous Landscape with House, Oil on Canvas, signed lower right, depicting a colorful landscape with small house and mountains, in a wood frame. Frame size: 25 in. x 30 7/8 in.

Lemmermeyer was born in NYC in the 1890's and began art instuction in the city at several art schools; during the first world war he was an illustrator for the US Army and its wartime publications. After the war he continued painting and taking instruction in the city and in the Andirondacks at teh Old Mill School during the summers. He ran his own successful business in the pharmeceutical industry for decades and continued to paint for his own pleasure. Upon retirement he moved to the Sarasota area where he began instruction from Jerry Farnsworth at his school there. He painted and exhibited in Florida with one man shows and prizes for his portraits, landscapes and still-lifes. He passed away in Sarasota in the late 1970's.

Good condition, some wear to frame.
