Description:

Max Kuehne (Germany/New York, 1880-1968) Cocktail Table, Cluster of Copper Flowers, Gessoed wood, Watercolor, Gold Leaf and Lacquer, c. 1940's, signed lower right side, the rectangular top decorated with flowers on scrolled ends. Literature: A very similar example illustrated in 'Max Kuehne: Artist and Craftsman,' Boyle, Richard, William Adair and Max Kuehne, New York: Hollis Taggart Galleries, 2001, plate 9. Provenance: Max Kuehne was a friend of the consignor's parents.

Max Kuehne was an incredibly versatile artist and craftsman. Kuehne grew up in Germany, studied painting in New York and lived for an extended period in Spain. During his travels he developed his painting and learned the art of frame making and began making furniture. His work can be found in the Art Institute of Chicago and the Whitney Museum, as well as in many private collections. (Avery Galleries)

Measurements: Height: 12 3/4 in. x Width: 40 1/2 in. x Depth: 18 in.

Condition:

Good overall condition, wear and chips to edges, ding on left side of top, age cracks to sides.
