American painter Mary Hoover Aiken grew up in Washington D.C. and studied at the Corcoran School of Art and abroad. She travelled broadly and established her painting career before returning to the U.S. to exhibit at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. She eventually settled in Savannah, Georgia with her husband, poet Conrad Aiken, where she continued to produce and exhibit her work. Aiken’s work can be found in the permanent collections of the Telfair Museum, the Met.
