Josef Foshko was born in Odessa, Russia in 1895. He completed his courses at the Russian Imperial Art School with a Scholarship to study in Paris. During his eight years in France he exhibited in all the important salons. At the exhibition of the Des Artistes Independents, the famous collector Ivan Morosov included two of Foshko's paintings in his purchase of works by Picasso, Matisse, Braque, and other avant-garde artists. These paintings are presently at the Museum of Modern Art in Moscow. Joseph Foshko arrived in this country in 1912.
