Description:
Joe B. Cumbee (McClellanville, SC, 1932-2024), Portrait of an African American Woman, Pencil on Paper, signed lower right, portrait of a woman, with International Oasis Art Gallery label on verso, matted and in a red frame. Frame size: 27 in. x 23 in.Joe B. Cumbee was a self-taught artist from South Carolina. Cumbee worked as a tug boat captain, drawing and painting in his free time and after retiring. His prolific body of work documents the South Carolina coast. Cumbee recieved the Jean Laney Harris Folk Heritage Award in 1991.

Condition:
Overall good condition, signature partially covered by mat, toning, paper creased, small hole lower left into figure's arm, some small tears along edges, lines from mounting tape along upper edge, not viewed out of frame, light wear to frame.Notice to bidders: The absence of a condition report does not imply that the lot is in perfect condition or completely free from wear and tear, imperfections, or the conditions of aging.
