Description:

Joan Miró (Barcelona 1893-1983), Mallorca Ceramiques, Lithograph, pencil signed and marked HC on lower edge, on Arches paper, from the 1974 Ceramiques De Miro er Artigas series, matted and framed. Frame size: 29 1/2 in. x 36 in. Together with receipt from San Francisco Art Exchange in 1984.

Joan Miro was a Catalan Spanish painter, sculptor, ceramicist and printmaker from Barcelona. Miro had a brief stint in the business world before abandoning it to pursue art after a nervous collapse. He is largely classified as a surrealist, but some of his work reflects that of his fauvist and expressionist contemporaries. Miro split his time between Paris and Spain and was represented by Pierre Matisse in his New York Gallery. He recieved international recognition after World War II along with many prestigious commissions and accolades. His large scale projects can be seen as murals and sculptures at Harvard University, the UNESCO building in Paris and in Chicago and Houston. His work can be found in the permanent collections of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Tate and the Art Insitute of Chicago among many others, including the Fundació Joan Miró in Barcelona, a museum dedicated to the artist and his legacy.
