Property from a Georgia Private Collector

Description:

Jimmy Lee Sudduth (AL, 1910-2007), Native American in Red White and Blue, Paint on Board, signed across bottom, depicting a figure in traditional Native American dress against a black background.

Jimmy Lee Sudduth was an imaginative folk artist and blues musician from Fayette, Alabama. He rarely painted with brushes, but rather used his fingers to directly apply his pigments, often clay, mud, sand or soot, directly onto plywood boards. Drawing inspiration from the world around him, Sudduth painted animals, architecture, farm scenes, people he knew, and the occasional celebrity he didn't. He exhibited widely in his lifetime and is viewed as an early master of contemporary Southern art. His work can be found in the Smithsonian American Art Museum, the High Museum and the House of Blues among others.

Measurements: Height: 48 in. x Width: 24 in.

Condition:

Good condition, general wear to edges of plywood.
