Jean-Marc Nattier (French, 1685-1766), Reclining Nude, Oil, c. 1754, signed Nattier lower right, oil possibly on parchment, depicting a reclining woman in a landscape wearing a white dress, red cloak and sandals and holding flowers, with village in the background, with inscription on the back 'Mme de Pompadour, M Nattier Pinxit, Anno Domini, MLCCDIV, 1754', in a giltwood frame. Frame size: 6 3/8 in. x 8 3/4 in.

Jean-Marc Nattier was a French court painter and portraitist. He was born to a family of painters, his father, mother, godfather and brother were all artists as well. He was trained in his father’s studio as a child before studying formally at the Royal Academy. Though he aspired to be a history painter, he found success as a portraitist and was best known for his allegorical depictions of court ladies. Today, his work can be found in the permanent collections of the Getty, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, and the Nationalmuseum in Sweden, among others.

Measurements: Height: by sight 4 1/2 in. x Width: 7 in.

Good condition, the painting slightly concave, the frame with losses to gilding throughout.
