Jean-Claude Gaugy (French, b. 1944), Therese, Acrylic on Board, 2001, signed lower right, depicting a woman holding flowers, dated and titled on verso and marked 'JC 23-27, Copyright 2001 Gaugy, #38403,' carved into 1/4 in. luan mahogany plywood, painted with acrylic paints, with oil crayon accents and oil paint glaze, varnished. Frame size: 31 in. x 37 in.
Jean-Claude Gaugy is a contemporary French artist known for his painted relief sculptures of crystalline abstractions of figures, landscapes, and still lifes. He studied at the École des Beaux-Arts . Gaugy works within the traditions of early European Modernist painters such as Paul Klee and Georges Braque, referring to his work as "Linear Expressionism." His work can be found in the collections of the Rockefeller foundation, the Hermitage Museum and the Smithsonian Institute, among others. (Artnet)
