Property from a Savannah, GA Collector(NY/Ukraine, 1915-1985), Goose, woodcut, 1974, signed, titled and numbered 107/120 and dated 1970 lower edge, matted and framed. Frame size: 22 in. x 15 in. by sight: H. 16 1/2 in. x W. 9 1/2 in. Jacques Hnizdovsky was a Ukrainian-born American artist best known for his ornate woodcuts depicting animals, plants, and narrative scenes. His works describe things in a realistic, highly idiosyncratic style based in his studies of Albrecht Dürer and Japanese ukiyo-e prints. His works are in the collections of the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston, the Smithsonian American Art Museum in Washington, D.C., the Ukrainian Institute of Modern Art in Chicago, and the Harvard University Art Museum, among others.
