Hill & Adamson (Scotland, fl. 1840-1850), Professor James Young Simpson, David Octavius Hill and Sir John Wilkie, Calotype, c. 1845, calotype by David Octavius Hill (Scottish, 1802–1870) and Robert Adamson (Scottish, 1821–1848), depicting Professor James Young Simpson with David Octavius Hill and father-in-law Sir John Wilkie, with pen inscription '1. D. O. Hill, 2. Sir John Wilkie, 3. Prof. Simpson, 3 is prof. Simpson the inventor of chloroform, the other two are Sir John Wilkie the Scotch painter and ... Paton's son-in-law, D. O. Hill. Photograph was taken when silver print/plate ... came out' on verso, mounted.Measurements: Height: 7 7/8 in. x Width: 6 1/4 in.
Condition:
Overall fair condition, toning, fading, wear, creases, and small tears to edges, some foxing, small paint/ink stain in bottom of left edge, loss bottom edge, other small losses along edges and in corners, photo possibly trimmed, photo fully mounted.
