Description:

Helen Hatch Inglesby (Savannah, 1914-1999), Valentine Letter and 2 Family Photos, the letter dated Feb. 14th 1932 with silhouette of cupid delivering a letter from Helen to her grandmother with original envelope addressed 'To Grandmother'. Together with photograph of Josiah Oates Hatch (9 1/2 in. x 7 in.), with pencil inscription and signature 'J. Jefferson' and photograph of Mabelle Hatch (8 1/4 in. x 6 in.), pencil signed and dated 1911 lower right below photo.

John Duncan purchased remainder of artists works from their estate in 1999.

Savannah native Helen Hatch Inglesby had a long and prolific career as an artist working in a wide variety of media, though she was perhaps best known for her silhouettes. Inglesby studied at the College of William and Mary and at the Telfair Academy. She was devoted to the Savannah art world, exhibiting regularly with the Savannah Art Association and the Society of Georgia Artists, as well as teaching art at various schools in the city. Her work can be found in the permanent collections of the Morris Museum of Art, the Telfair Museum and in private collections.

Measurements: Height: of valentine 7 in. x Width: 4 3/4 in.

Condition:

Overall good condition, toning to paper and photographs, wear and losses to edges of photos and mounting, particularly bottom edge of Josiah photograph.
