Hector Dewart (GA, 1937-1996), Interminant Deluge, Oil on Canvas, signed and dated 1971 lower right, titled on stretcher on verso, depicting an abstract geometric scene in tones of blue, green and purple on a white ground, unframed.

Hector MacLean Dewart II was born in Savannah, GA in 1937. He was an abstract painter, interior decorator and frame maker. Dewart made his way to Seattle, WA in the early 60s, as a design consultant for Western International Hotels where he remained for a decade before returning to Savannah. In Seattle, he collaborated and painted with the artists of the Pacific Northwest school, including Dale Chihuly, William (Bill) Commings, Guy Anderson, Wesly Wehr, to name a few. In 1973, Dewart opened Dewart Gallery, a gallery and frame shop located at 39th & Bull St., Savannah, GA. Along with framing and continuing his own artistic practice, Dewart collaborated with local artists, including Ivan Bailey, Robert Cooper, Sam Dyer, Hattie Saussy, Henrietta Waring, Myrtle Jones, and Mary Aiken. In 1980 he opened 'Dewart Gallery II' in collaboration with Ray Ellis. During the following years the framing business continued to remain busy. In 1993 the Georgia Guardian published on article about Dewart titled 'Framing: An Art Unto Itself'. In 1997 Southern Living magazine published 'House on the Hill' which included one of Dewart's last interior design projects.

Condition:

Overall fair condition, wear to edges of canvas, surface dirt and some scattered splatter marks, horizontal drip marks near top and bottom of left edge, raised areas to canvas along top and right side from debris between stretcher and canvas, in need of cleaning.
