Description:

Harriet Huston (GA, 1901 - 1989), Floral Still Life, Oil on Board, signed 'H. Huston' lower right, depicting a still life with bowl of flowers and book, in a silvered wood frame. Frame size: 20 3/4 in. x 16 3/4 in.

Harriet Huston was active in Coatesville, Pennsylvania and Savannah, Georgia, and studied art both in Philadelphia and in Savannah under Elliott O'Hara and later under Reuben Gambrell, at the Savannah Branch of the University of Georgia. She was a contemporary of Leonora Quarterman and Ted Waters and exhibited with both them at the Telfair Academy of Arts and Sciences in April of 1950. The show was titled Three Watercolorists of the Coastal Region, Poetic Presentation of the Low Country. Huston was also a founding member of the Poetry Society of Georgia.

Measurements: Height: by sight 17 1/2 in. x Width: 13 5/8 in.

Condition:

Good condition, varnish yellowed, some small chips in thicker paint of flower petals, surface dirt and some minor splatter marks, mostly in lower quadrant. General wear to frame.
