Description:

Guttorn Otto (Canada, 1919 - 2012), Uxbridge Forest, Oil on Masonite, signed lower right, depicting a snow covered forest, with remnants of gallery label with artist and title on verso, in a wood frame. Frame size: 34 1/2 in. x 41 3/4 in.

Guttorn Otto was born in 1919 near Lodz, Poland, into a family which valued art and music. Early in life Otto decided to concentrate on fine art. He traveled extensively throughout Europe and studied under some of Europe's most noted teachers, including Professor Bordjuk, formerly of the Moscow Academy, Baroness von Aufsess and A. Kausler in Ansbach. In 1948 he was elected a member of the Professional Society of Creative Artists in Western Germany. In 1952 Otto came to Canada with his family and settled in Toronto. Since then his paintings document his love for the Canadian landscape. He is most know for his striking landscape paintings but is also noted for his floral, still-life and seascape works.
