Description:

George Rodrigue (Louisiana, 1944-2013), Midnight Cowboy, Lithograph, signed and inscribed artist's proof lower right, depicting 5 blue dogs with different color cowboy hats, matted and framed. Frame size: 36 3/4 x 41 1/2 in. According to the consignor this was purchased directly from his gallery in New Orleans and has museum quality glass.

George Rodrigue was born in Louisiana in 1944 and is known for depicting Louisiana landscapes, small-town heroes, and Cajun culture in his paintings. Rodrigue is most known for his series focused on the Blue Dog. He modeled the Blue Dog on his dog Tiffany and his ideas for the series were based on the Cajun urban legend of the "loup-garou," or werewolf. By the 1990s, Rodrigue devoted his full attention to the Blue Dog series and its imagery has become a recognizable motif throughout Louisiana.
