George Morland, Coastal Scene with Figure, Oil, (British, 1763-1804), Coastal Scene with Figure, Possibly Isle of Wight, oil on canvas, signed lower left, depicting three figures with dog along a shoreline with breaking clouds in the distance, with label on the back "Coast Scene with figures by George Morland, taken Isle of Wight, Bought at Auction Rooms of Sotheby & Co. 34 + 35 New Bond St. London, W(!) England, Wednesday Dec. 7, 1927. Property of late E. J. Veitch, Esq. of Dudley England. $250.00", in a giltwood frame. Frame size: 16 in. x 24 3/4 in. By sight: H. 9 3/4 in. x W. 18 3/8 in.George Morland was a British painter and practitioner of the animalier style. Morland's artistic career was characterized by his prolific creation of landscape and animal paintings of English rural life, executed with attention to detail in a naturalist style representative of English painting at the time.
