Description:

Gene Davis (D.C., 1920-1985), Abstract, Screenprint, pencil numbered '52/75' and signed and dated 1977 lower right, with pale vertical stripes in blue, red and yellow, matted. Mat size: 31 3/4 in. x 41 1/2 in.

Gene Davis was a self-taught artist, learning primarily from visits to local museums, who turned to art after a brief career in journalism. Known for his stripe paintings, Davis was a leader of the Washington Color School of artists in D.C. in the 1960s. He taught art at the Corcoran School of Art. Davis's work can be found in the Smithsonian Museum of American Art, the Phillips Collection, the Guggenheim and the Walker Art Center, among others.

Good condition, mat burn.
