Description:
English School, Portrait of a Woman, Miniature, possibly by Sir John Wilkie of 'Mrs. Mather', unsigned with note on back 'Mrs. Mather, nee Madelaine Grandison, Grandmother of Colonel and Miss Bowman, by her cousin, Sir John Wilkie, R.A. Miss Grandison eloped while riding with her husband, who came from Aberdeen, and was tutor to her brother, Mr. Grandison. She died at Kazan in Russia. She had two sisters, a Mrs. Ruffel, and a Miss Grandison, who both died in Russia. Frame size: 10 in. x 8 7/8 in.
