Detlev Nitschke (German, 1935- ), Venice, 2011, Oil on Board, signed lower right, depicting a colorful cityscape of Venice with bright buildings and boats on the canal, in a giltwood frame, plaque on frame reading "Venice" Detlev Nitschke born 1934,' Kurt E. Schon New Orleans gallery labels on back of frame, frame size 14 3/8 in. x 16 3/4 in.Detlev Nitschke is a German artist known for his picturesque scenes developed from plein-air-painting into designs for calendars and maps. His work is heavily influenced by both the American Impressionists and his travels throughout Europe and Russia. Born in 1935 in Berlin, Germany, Nitschke studied lithography at Meisterschule Fur Druck & Graphik, and later worked as a director for a graphics company. He is a member of the Society of Berlin Painters of Architecture and has exhibited in New York, Boston, and Cape Cod. (Artnet)
