David Delong (NJ/GA, 1930-2001), From the Reverse Seascape Series, Oil on Canvas, c. 1964, signed lower right, painted in tones of green, blue and white, unframed.
David Delong had two passions - Art and Motorcycles. Over his fifty-year career, he was a versatile artist exploring many media to examine persistent themes - The genre of motorcycle racing, the figure, architecture and Tybee tides. 'Rich, saturated blues and greens appear in early, expressive seascapes... Drawing upon Delong's memories of his seafaring days in the merchant marine during the late 1940's, these works also evidence his familiarity with the robust seascapes of American artists like George Bellows.' (David Delong: Passages, Telfair Museum of Art 2006, pg. 23).
