Description:

Classical Mahogany Dressing Chest of Drawers, Rufus Pierce, c. 1828-30, the upper two drawers with stencil 'Rufus Pierce, Furniture, Warehouse, No 17 Market St, Boston', with rectangular top surmounted by 3 small drawers and a swiveling mirror, the lower section with two short drawers over 3 long drawers flanked by columns, raised on tapering carved reeded feet.

Rufus Pierce had sole proprietorship of a furniture warehouse at 17 Market Street in Boston from 1828-1829 before partnering with Nathaniel Messer from 1829-1830. In 1830 the partnership failed and they were forced to sell the Market Street Warehouse; Pierce relocated to New York at 218 Broadway. Reference: Talbott, Page.
