Christopher Murphy Jr. (Savannah, 1902-1973), St. John's Cathedral Savannah, Pencil, signed lower left, pencil dated verso 'January 15, 1926', depicting a side view of Saint Johns Cathedral, Savannah, GA with trees and row houses, matted and framed. Size of Paper: 11 1/8 in. x 8 1/2 in. Frame size:16 3/4 in. x 13 3/4 in.

Christopher Murphy Jr. was a notable 20th century Savannah, Georgia artist. Murphy's artistic education started early as both of his parents were respected Savannah artists, and continued with formal training at the Art Students League. His superior technical skills allowed him to work in a variety of mediums and subject matter and he is best known for his city and landscape scenes of his home town Savannah. He was an active member of the Savannah Art Club and taught art classes around town. During his career his work was exhibited at the National Academy of Design, Art Institute of Chicago, New York Watercolor Club, American Watercolor Society, Sesquicentennial Exposition in Philadelphia, Whitney Museum, Victoria and Albert Museum, and the Southern Art League. His work is held in the permanent collections of the Morris Museum and the Telfair as well as in various private collections.

Good condition, mounting tape residue along edges on backside of paper, paper toned, minor foxing, wear to frame.
