Description:
Christopher Murphy Jr. (Savannah, 1902-1973), Portrait of Artist's Father, Oil on Canvas, unsigned, with Yost Conservation documention from 2005 on verso, depicing a three quarter length portrait of Christopher Murphy Sr. in a black suit jacket against a dark background, in a giltwood frame. Frame size: 34 in. x 29 5/8 in.Christopher A. D. Murphy was a notable 20th century Savannah, Georgia artist. His superior technical skills allowed him to work in a variety of mediums and subject matter and he is best known for his city and landscape scenes of his home town Savannah. During his career his work was exhibited at the National Academy of Design, Art Institute of Chicago, New York Watercolor Club, American Watercolor Society, Sesquicentennial Exposition in Philadelphia, Whitney Museum, Victoria and Albert Museum, and the Southern Art League.
Measurements: Height: by sight 29 in. x Width: 24 1/4 in.
Condition:
Good restored condition, restretched, relined, cleaned, some small areas of inpainting in face and background, revarnished, light wear to edges of frame.
